President / Founder
Hailing from Munich, Germany, Michael has been involved in the music business one way or another since he was 16. Early on, Michael accompanied his brother Christian Prommer on DJ tours through Germany and learned the ins and outs of the business of a DJ, producer and remixer. Michael went on to study at UC Berkeley, where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Economics. After a stint as Management Consultant with Bain & Company advising Fortune 500 companies on operations and leveraged buyouts, Michael became a partner in the electronic music website xlr8r.com in 1999. In 2004, Michael founded Defend Music with the goal to provide clients with the best creative and business services. Michael and Defend’s first signing was Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, followed by The Budos Band, Menahan Street Band and Charles Bradley, kicking off the retro soul revival that continues to this day.
Label, publishing, management, throwing shows, touring the country in a van, producing records, DJing – there’s pretty much nothing music-related that Greg hasn’t done. Greg has brought Defend classic copyrights including Kanye West’s smash “Monster,” Scott Klass’s “5 Steps” (the theme song of long-running TV show “Intervention”), indie rock icon Chris Walla’s catalog including his songs with Death Cab For Cutie, and the songs of funk cult heroes Vulfpeck. Greg also manages writer/producer Rogét Chahayed, whose hits with DRAM, Halsey, Travis Scott, Miguel and other superstars have sold well over 10 million records. A UCLA alum, you can find Greg in a studio, at a show, or in the candy aisle of the supermarket trying to find a fresh package of Red Vines.
Director, Copyright and Royalties
Hailing all the way from the 818, Christy spent nearly a decade working as the Director of Licensing & Repertoire for Sindee Levin Music and AMRA before becoming Director, Copyright & Royalties for Defend. Aging like a fine wine but in reverse, Christy is a self-proclaimed aficionado of all things pop culture, Fleetwood Mac, and 80’s commercial jingles that aired in Los Angeles. In addition to her great love of the 90’s sitcom Living Single, Christy enjoys free samples at Costco and writing about herself in third person.
