Defend Music, Inc. – Fall 2025 Intern Description

• Overview: Independent music publisher Defend Music, Inc., home to the publishing catalogs of Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Thee Sacred Souls, and more, is seeking a motivated intern who is eager to learn about music publishing, including sync licensing, copyright, rights administration, and A&R.
• Hours: 10 to 20 hours a week (working hours: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. PST)
• Term: Fall: September 2025 to Winter Break (By quarter/semester system)
• Pay: $20/hour on a freelance basis
• Location: Remote
• Requirements:
  • Resume 
  • Current college/university student preferred, but not required
  • Proven professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Interest in learning about music publishing
• Duties and Responsibilities
  • TV / Film Research for sync licensing opportunities
  • Database Management and Maintenance
    • Disco (Music tagging, processing, Catalogs, etc.)
    • Watchdog (Claiming and maintenance)
    • CRM (Salesforce)
    • Email Marketing (Mailchimp)
  • New Client Research
  • PROs & MLC public database research
• Learning/Growth/Educational Outcomes
  • Sync Licensing process & contracts
  • Copyright, song information basics
  • Sync Pitching process
  • Publishing Agreements/Contracts
  • SalesForce, Gmail, GSuite, Mailchimp basics
